The Process

All parts are initially sanded and matched. Following this step wood filler is applied and then sealed. After the filler sets up it is sanded with three different grit paper.

Filled wood ready for sanding

After the filled and sealed blanks have been sanded, several coats of urethane primer are applied. These are then sanded using 400, 600, and finally 1000 grit paper. The blanks are now ready for paint application. All paints are single stage urethane. These are mixed using the exact factory code. There are a few exceptions when using pure white and black. After painting the cases are again sanded with 1000 or 1500 grit paper.

The cases following the first paint application

After the base coat of paint is applied and sanded the blanks are ready for the clear coat. The clear is then applied in several coats and allowed to dry overnight. The clear is then sanded up thru 3000 grit paper followed by buffing and polishing. A long process but this is required for a good long lasting finish.
